Kilmartin House Museum
houses the Marion Campbell Library which was opened in December 2001.
The initial collection of books donated by the Museum’s founders Rachel
Butler and David Clough, was added to by the Marion Campbell bequest in
the early months of 2001. There are now more than 300 books and a full
set of the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. This
comprises a very valuable research resource for the local community and
visitors to the area. We are actively building the library collection
so that it is a comprehensive reference resource on the archaeology,
history and natural history of Argyll and the rest of Scotland. The
library also houses the book collection of The Natural History and
Antiquarian Society of Mid Argyll.
If you would like to help us increase our collection you can donate or
bequeath appropriate books or buy a title from a list of books we are
seeking to collect. Contact

Volunteer Sheila Clarke is currently undertaking cataloguing work in the
library therefore some disruption will be experienced. We apologise if
this causes you any inconvenience and ask that you bear with us. Once
the work is done, the library will be much easier to use and the books
will be safer!
Martin Murphy’s Library Furniture
In order to house the growing book collection, in 1999 craftsman Martin
Murphy was commissioned to make the library furniture. What he created
must be one of the most beautiful and unusual libraries in Scotland.
Well worth a visit in its own right.
