Kilmartin House Museum offers an object identification service for
legally obtained artefacts. Bring them to the Museum, where you will be
asked to complete some forms or contact us:

Remember:
- you must not remove objects from the ground unless you have the
landowner's permission
- it is illegal for anyone to disturb the ground around a scheduled
ancient monument without prior consent of Scottish Ministers
- removing objects from the ground often damages valuable contextual
evidence from which archaeologists can use to piece together a much
richer story of the past
If in doubt, either contact the Museum:

to ask for advice.
Newly discovered archaeological artefacts are often claimed as Treasure
Trove (see the TT web site for more information www.treasuretrovescotland.co.uk/)
which may then award them to a local museum or the National Museums of
Scotland.
