Kilmartin House Museum generates just under half of its running costs
via ticket sales and through the café and shop. This represents a
substantial achievement for any museum, and especially so, given our
rural location.
In 2003/04 the Museum was in danger of closure as its set-up grants
tailed off. Following a public campaign, three-year funding arrangements
were agreed with various public bodies. The Scottish Executive via the
Scottish Museums Council, matched Argyll and Bute’s contribution in the
2005 to 2006 financial year. Given the international and national
archaeological and historical significance of the site, we hope that the
Scottish Executive funding will be continued in this, and future
financial years.

Our 'core' funding is still not sufficient for us to continue our work
so we remain reliant on generous donations from the public. If you
