There are more than 800 ancient monuments within a six-mile radius of the village of Kilmartin, Argyll, many of them are are prehistoric. This extraordinary concentration and diversity of monuments distinguishes the Kilmartin Glen as an area of outstanding archaeological importance. It is one of Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscapes. Kilmartin House Museum is an award winning world-class centre for archaeology and landscape interpretation established to protect, investigate and interpret this internationally important archaeological landscape and the artefacts that have been found here. At this unique and vibrant centre you can also see ‘The Valley of Ghosts’ audio-visual – a time travelling experience with breath taking imagery and haunting music. Award-winning Scottish author Lari Don has set one of the quests in her new novel Maze Running on Dunadd in Kilmartin!

Join Lari on the top of the hillfort, where she will read from Maze Running, talk about how she wrote the scene, and tell one of the dark legends which inspired her books.

Then come back with her to Kilmartin House Museum, where she will tell another legend and sign books.

Bring sensible shoes, a raincoat, midgie repellent, and a dragon, if you have one!

Gather at the car park at Dunadd at 13.40. Event on the top of Dunadd; 14.00 - 14.30. More stories and book signing at the museum from 15.00.

Story event suitable for 8 - 12 year olds. Whole families welcome, but content of readings and storytelling will be aimed at older children.

For children of all ages, Lori from Funky Chicken will be our Face Painting Artist for the day at the museum from 11.00 - 16.00; small charge applies.

Free event, booking essential for Dunadd trip, drop in at the museum for storytelling, book signing and face painting.
