Description
An imposing example of a chambered cairn clear from cairn material.
The remains of a chamber with very little of the surrounding cairn left. It comprises of three compartments, the rear two of which are partly coverd by capstones, and measures 4.8m in length. A cist lies 2m away and consists of two slabs and a capstone.
Excavation Details
Excavation in 1864 by Mapleton, revealed 3 compartments. The outermost and central compartments contained charcoal, burnt bone and several flints. The innermost contained a portion of Food Vessel, burnt and unburnt bones and several flint implements. The pottery, and a cist 2m away represent the site's reuse, many generations after it was built.
