This
medieval chapel of St.Bridget or Bride is situated on a rocky knoll. An
Early Christian cross-slab at Kilbride farmhouse suggests an Early
Christian origin for the site. The chapel itself is probably 13th c. and
is of a rubble construction, intermittently coursed, with dressed local
schist for the door and window surrounds. Medieval plaster is still
visible in the ingoes of the E and S windows and the entrance doorway
appears to be undisturbed medieval work. In the 18thc. and 19th c. it
was used as a burial place for the Campbell family of Rhudil and the
masonry was extensively repointed in about 1900. |
