Description
This massive stone, the second stone from the SE end of the line of four has cups and cup and ring carvings all over its W face.
Two of the six standing stones at Ballymeanoch are decorated with cup and ring marks. A seventh stone, now fallen was also decorated. Of a line of 4 stones this one is marked only on its east face while another is decorated on the opposing w face. Cup and ring carvings are more commonly found on bed rock but certain important standing stones tend to have a proliferation of them such as this example.
Excavation Details
The stump of the fallen stone was excavated and removed in 1977.
Finds
- patches of cremated bone
