Description |
|
This
double spiral spans two faces of a stone in Temple Wood's southern stone
circle. The spiral on one face is better executed than the other and,
being lower, may once have been obscured by cairn material. Comparison
with Irish rock art suggests a date around 3,000BC. |

Excavation Details |
|
This is one of the
few key sites around Kilmartin which has been treated to a thorough,
modern excavation. Several features give an Irish flavour to this west
coast monument. It is thought that the northern circle was constructed
to align with the mid-day sun on the winter solstice. |
