Kilmartin Museum’s education team along with other specialists worked with Primary 6 pupils from Dalintober School in Campbeltown to study butterflies.
The project had many elements including; the study of the butterfly life cycle; surveillance and document recording of the Butterflies and moths at Westport Beach; surveillance of the natural fauna & flora at Westport Beach; designing and creating a ‘butterfly’ garden in the school playground and rearing butterflies to release into the school butterfly garden. One of the most important elements of this project was for the children to study the Robert Weir Butterfly collection that has been in the care of Campbeltown museum since the 1920’s.
The children’s work is now on display in Campbeltown Museum until 2nd December 2018.
