Festival of Archaeology 2025
Art and Artefact: From technical drawing to creative response
28th July- 3 sessions: 1pm, 2pm and 3pm
In Kilmartin Museum’s Learning Centre
Illustrating artefacts can be an exercise in accuracy and convention but often hides a more creative and meditative practice.
In this workshop, join Will (our Education Team Lead) and learn how archaeological illustrators use various techniques to both record ancient artefacts and bring them to life.
Participants will receive a brief presentation on how and why archaeologists draw artefacts, followed by the opportunity to produce their own illustrations using a of a variety of materials. The Museum will provide paper, paints, pens and pencils. Participants are welcome to bring their own materials if they wish.
The workshop will consist of 3 sessions, at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm respectively. Each session will start with a presentation including all necessary instructions for the workshop. Whilst booking is not necessary, we ask that you time your arrival for 1pm, 2pm or 3pm to make sure you get the most out of the workshop. Participants are welcome to stay for as many of the three sessions as they would like.
All Ages Welcome; under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult. The Learning Centre is wheelchair accessible via a lift.
