Relaxed Sessions

Our relaxed sessions take place on the third Saturday of every month, offering a calmer environment for visitors who prefer to explore without the usual levels of noise and activity. These session are open to children, their families and carers and are particularly suited to visitors who prefer a quieter, less busy environment, including (but not limited to), neurodivergent visitors, visitors with sensory sensitivities and anyone who would benefit from a calmer visit.

Please note that the museum will be closed to the general public for this duration and at 11.00 sound will be switched back on but visitors to this session are welcome to remain in the museum as long as they like.

What to expect

During relaxed sessions, we introduce changes throughout the museum to ensure a calmer and more comfortable experience including:

More consistent lighting (lowered in some areas, increased in others)
Interactives and audio will be turned down or off to create a quieter experience for visitors who prefer it.
Quiet spaces available if you need a break
Clearer signage and staff on hand to support your visit
Sensory backpacks and ear defenders are available to borrow

When are the sessions?

Relaxed sessions are held on the third Saturday of every month, 10:00am – 11:00am . Although our sessions begin at 10:00am, there’s no need to arrive exactly at that time. We offer a flexible drop-in window, so you’re welcome to join us at any point between 10:00am and 11:00am. Feel free to come at a time that suits you within that hour.

Tickets

Tickets can be purchased at reception. We don’t charge admission for carers, just remember to bring proof of your Carer status with you on the day.
