Foodways of Ancient Argyll Course at Kilmartin Museum
25th August 2026
One day event workshop
10:30 to 15:30
Kilmartin Museum will be joined by Lucy Cooke (The Wilde Cooke) who will lead you on a journey through the Neolithic and Bronze Age.
Held in the unique landscape of Kilmartin Glen, in the shadow of prehistoric monuments, join Kilmartin Museum and the Wild Cooke for a foraging walk and taster session focused on ancient Argyll. From wild foods and the first domestic crops to the tools used in gathering, processing and cooking, you will learn about the people and foodways of the monument builders who created this incredible place.
There are only 12 places available on this workshop, so booking is essential. The cost per person is £125
This one day course includes:
- An introduction to Kilmartin Glen, from the Ice Age to today.
- A replica flint foraging tool to take away with you.
- An expert-led walk, identifying a range of edible and useful plants.
- Archaeological insight and hands-on experience processing wild and ancient foods and ingredients.
- A light late lunch of wild foods, ancient grains and more.
This course will be held in and around Kilmartin Museum, and runs from 10:30 to 15:30. We will be outdoors for part of the day, so you will need to dress for the weather! We will be covering a range of terrains from gravel paths to open fields, with some short moderate slopes.
** Please note that whilst there will be plant-based options available, this course does include some meat and dairy. All dietary requirements must be given in advance. Although we will make an effort to cater for all needs, due to the nature of the workshop this cannot be guaranteed.**
The minimum age for participants is 18 years.
